Ally Unger, MS, LAC Licensed Associate Counselor
My Education
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and my Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. After spending several years working in corporate recruiting, I felt called to pursue my true passion for helping others and supporting them through life’s challenges. My educational background, combined with my professional experience, allows me to offer clients both practical insights and therapeutic support during times of transition or difficulty.
My Professional Journey
I have spent over nine years working as a talent acquisition partner in various corporate recruiting environments, specializing in the recruitment of physicians, mental health therapists, physical and occupational therapists, RNs, and educators, including teachers and school administrators. While I still greatly enjoy this work and find it fulfilling, I’ve always felt a strong calling to help others on a deeper, more personal level.
This calling led me to pursue my degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and while I continue to work in corporate recruiting, I also dedicate myself to supporting individuals through therapy. My experience in various corporate environments has provided me with a unique perspective on the challenges that come with navigating career transitions, workplace conflicts, and life changes. I find that both roles complement each other well—my work as a recruiter allows me to understand the intricacies of career pressures, while my work as a therapist helps me guide clients through those pressures and other emotional hurdles like grief, self-esteem, and relationship challenges. I am passionate about offering a space where clients can process these complexities and find healing and growth.
My focuses as a counselor include, but are not limited to:
Adult Individuals
Teens
Anxiety
Depression
Self-Esteem
Identity Issues
Major Life Transitions
Divorce/Breakup Recovery
Codependency and Attachment Wounding
Grief
In Addition to Therapy
Originally from Minnesota, I moved to Arizona in January of 2024, seeking new opportunities and, of course, the Arizona sunshine. When I'm not in the office, I am either playing pickleball, hiking, exploring the Greater Phoenix restaurant scene, traveling, or spending quality time with friends and family. I am an avid reader and am always looking for opportunities to learn and grow—whether that means expanding my knowledge in the field of therapy or simply diving into a good book. I’m also committed to staying active, as I believe physical well-being is an important part of maintaining mental health.
